American Express has successfully put on this event for the past 3 years and Small Business Saturday 2012 was no exception.
According to the NFIB (National Federation of Independent Business), over $5.5 billion was spent that Saturday.
This exceeded the $5.3 billion estimate.
American Express said they’ve put in more effort to increase the awareness for this year’s event and, judging by the numbers, their efforts paid off.
Local politicians and other government officials also talked up the event and encouraged people to support small businesses.
More small business owners offered deals just for Small Business Saturday than last year. So, those who were more interested in getting a good deal than shopping “small” still had a reason to support local shops. Read more
