As more and more people skip through or ignore commercials altogether, advertisers and networks have had to come up with creative solutions in order to get ads in front of viewers.
The renowned chef and outspoken television personality sat down to watch the final 2 episodes of his long-running show, No Reservations, when he discovered the ads. They were integrated in such a way that you didn’t even realize it was an advertisement until it was halfway through.
In a post on his blog titled, “Fighting Mad“, Bourdain discusses his anger over the ads.
Bourdain said he never approved of his likeness being used in the Cadillac advertisement.
“The network made a commercial, with me endorsing a product, and hadn’t even bothered to ask me. After the first airing of the commercial, I let the network know of my extreme displeasure. Fair warning one would think. They ran it again anyway.
[…] But I CAN do something when my name and image (such as they are) are used to sell a product without my consent and in violation of prior specific and well crafted legal agreements. And I intend to.”
After 8 successful seasons, Bourdain said, “It’s an inglorious way to go out.”
